It may sound a fishy idea but a food manufacture has come up with smoked salmon that tastes like bacon.
American company MacKnight developed the product as a healthy alternative to the fatty non-kosher food.
The company plans to launch “smoked salmon bacon” in UK supermarkets and restaurants following its success in the US, Canada, Hong Kong and — the home of bacon — Denmark.
UK sales manager Tim Barrah said: “It is not kosher-approved yet, but it is something we are looking to do.
“We don’t see any problems with it being not kosher because it is produced exactly the same way as our kosher salmon and is 100 per cent salmon.”
A 6oz pack with six rashers will cost £3 and contains 192 calories compared to the 275 typical in pork bacon.
Mr Barrah said: “We’ve had some good feedback. You cook it like bacon you can have it with eggs, in a salad, or even on a pizza is quite nice.”
