Late Night host Seth Meyers this week revealed to his audience that his new son, Axel Strahl Meyers, was born in the lobby of the New York apartment building where the comedian lives with his wife Alexi Ashe.

Although his has Jewish ancestry Seth isn’t actually Jewish, but his wife is and so their children are being raised in the Jewish tradition.

Meyers recently shared a home video which showed his wife was lighting Hanukkah candles as their two-year old son Ashe did his best to sing the blessing.

And this week, as he welcomed Ashe’s new brother into the world, Seth revealed the story behind Axel’s name:

“His middle name is Strahl, which is my mother-in-law, Joanne – that’s her parents’ name, that’s her maiden name.

“I never met my wife’s grandparents, but I’ve heard so much about them, and they were Holocaust survivors who met the day after they were liberated.

“They met in the hospital in Austria and [on] days like this... when someone was born, you just have such an appreciation for everyone in your lineage who lived so that you could have this moment.”
