A Charedi man was found not guilty of cocaine smuggling by a jury at Wood Green Crown Court last week.

Nachum Twersky had pleaded not guilty after two packages containing almost 2kg of cocaine, with a street value of £60,000, were tracked by police to his home in March last year.

Customs officers had intercepted the two packages which were sent from Costa Rica and were addressed to Mr Twersky’s house in Stamford Hill for the attention of another recipient. Mr Twersky, represented by Jonathan Goldberg QC and Gary Grant, was arrested on March 12 after police forced entry to the house and found a yellow Post-it note with a Parcelforce reference number. The note, in Mr Twersky’s handwriting, matched the details of the package.

Mr Twersky, who was awarded defence costs, said he had been set up by two Israelis he met at a restaurant in Stamford Hill.
