Police are investigating a vicious assault on a pregnant woman in Stamford Hill early last Thursday evening who was repeatedly punched by her attacker.

CCTV footage posted by the Orthodox defence organisation Shomrim shows the man following the woman into an alley off Manor Road at around 6.30pm.

He then runs up behind, thrusts a black pillow or bag over her head and hits her several times before scurrying off.

Shomrim tweeted the victim, who was 27 weeks’ pregnant, was “rushed to hospital with injuries”.

Police said the 20-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.

A source in the local Jewish community said the woman was "ok but traumatised"

There had been a spike in assaults on Jewish women in the area with seven in the area over the past month or so but Thursday's was the "most severe", the source said.

Police said they are trying to establish a motive for last week's incident and no arrests had been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101, quoting reference Cad 6517/18Mar.

Shomrim said they had received assurances from the police and local council that patrols were being stepped up.
