The government has been urged to reverse a decision to ban Israelis from the UK’s prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) from next year.

The decision was made by the Ministry of Defence because, it said: ”The Israeli Government's decision to further escalate its military operation in Gaza is wrong.”

Now the shadow secretary for defence, James Cartlidge has written to Defence Secretary John Healey asking why Parliament was not informed of the decision.
“Israel is a definitive ally of the UK, which is effectively at war… I’m extremely concerned at the way our world-renowned military educational establishment is being used as a political tool to appease your party’s internal divisions on issues regarding the Middle East. I urge you to withdraw this decision as soon as possible,” he wrote.

The prestigious college, which is run by the MoD and trains high-ranking officers from the UK and its allies in strategic-level roles, has never before issued a blanket ban on applicants from an allied state.
