Mark Adderley, husband of Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha, has joined the Green Party’s formal working group on Croydon council despite being suspended by the party.

Adderley was officially dropped as a Green Party candidate before last month’s local elections after he compared Israel to Nazi Germany and suggested that Israel was to blame for the Bondi Beach terror attack.

He responded to his suspension at the time by saying he was “truly, deeply, viscerally disgusted” by the decision.

"I have spent my entire life fighting racism in all its forms. I have stood shoulder to shoulder with Jewish friends, comrades, and communities against genuine hatred,” he added, claiming that the party had “fallen at what feels like the first hurdle in Labour’s attempts to recreate the Corbyn antisemitism psychodrama of some years ago”.
