Philip Simon brings home the bacon playing Daddy in Peppa Pig

articlemain

Children, and indeed parents, across Britain will probably want to see this man.

Actor Philip Simon is starring in the UK tour of hit TV show Peppa Pig, about a playful but slightly bossy little pig.

London-based Mr Simon, 31, is playing Daddy Pig in the tour, which started in Salford earlier this month.

He tells People: "I have done children's theatre before but only pantomimes. This is a very different type of show. There is lots of repetition, instructions and funny words."

The performance also uses puppets of the characters, controlled by the actors. "It can be difficult synching everything. You and the puppet have to be one. If the puppet looks at something, I have to look at something. This took some getting used to."

He admits that he had never heard of the show when he got offered the role and says he spent the weeks before the show watching "many, many episodes. My sky box was full up with it and I bought the DVDs."

He adds: "I could see the level of fun that could be had with the puppets and the team. Even at the auditions, everyone was so friendly. We are having great fun doing it. The show is selling out, which is incredibly exciting as an actor."

Mr Simon, who trained at the Guildford School of Acting, has previously starred in the BBC's hit show My Family, A Short Stay in Switzerland and several television adverts. His theatre credits include The Winslow Boy, Aladdin and House Guest, among others.
