Israel’s security cabinet is due to convene today after a motar shell was fired at IDF soldiers on the Gaza border on Friday morning.
The soldiers did not suffer any injuries or fatalities.
In a statement, the army said that at about 6am, "another round of artillery was fired at an IDF unit that was carrying out an operational activity near the barrier in the southern Gaza Strip."
According to reports from Gaza, the army also responded with an attack on an Islamic Jihad lookout point near Khan Yunis in the southern end of the Strip. No injuries were reported.
Israel and Hamas said on Thursday that Egypt was mediating a restoration of a 2014 truce after two days of cross-border violence.
Yesterday, a tunnel running from Gaza into Israel was discovered by IDF troops – the second such terrorist infrastructure to be found in one month.
