A Palestinian man broke into the Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv this afternoon and threatened to kill any Jew who entered the building.
It is believed two people were held hostage inside the embassy on Hayarkon Street by Nadim Injaz, a Palestinian from Ramallah. One person was reported shot and injured. There was confusion over who this was but It is believed it was Injaz, shot in the leg by security guards.
A lawyer, Shafik Abuani, told Israel Radio that he talked to Injaz by telephone, trying to calm him down. He said Injaz threatened to burn the embassy down if he was not granted asylum.
Mr Abuani said Injaz had demanded protection from "these murderers the Zionists, the murdering Jews" and said that Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, "should die."
His relationship to Injaz is unclear. But he said Injaz had demanded to be flown to Turkey.
Magen David Adom ambulance service's director Eli Bin said: "We were called to the scene after being informed that someone was barricading himself at the embassy. When we arrived, a Turkish representative said there was no need for us to come in and did not allow us to enter."
