The official state of emergency in southern Israel is set to be lifted on Tuesday for the first time since the October 7 attacks.

Defence Minister Israel Katz approved a recommendation from the IDF on Monday to retract the designation following the agreement of a ceasefire with Hamas.

The "special situation” status in the area granted powers to the Home Front Command to restrict freedom of assembly and close off sections of the region.

The state of emergency was declared on the morning of October 7, 2023 as Hamas terrorists launched incursions into southern communities.
