The Israeli embassy in Amman should reopen as normal after the weekend after only a fraction of the anti-Israel protesters expected turned up for a planned demonstration.

A Facebook group set up to encourage people to protest at the complex attracted some 3,000 people, but according to Al-Jazeera only a few hundred of them actually went.

The demonstrators called for the Jordanian government to cancel the peace agreement with Israel, signed 17 years ago. Slogans included: "No Zionist embassy on Arab land".

They attempted to march into the embassy complex but police stopped them.
