The Shin Bet has confirmed it foiled a Hamas plot to assassinate Israel’s national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, using explosive drones.
The security service announced the breakup of a terrorist cell in Hebron, in the West Bank, targeting the cabinet member.
Ben-Gvir, who leads the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, lives in the settlement of Kiryat Arba in the area and has become a leading target for Palestinian terrorists given his advocacy for West Bank annexation and the complete destruction of Hamas in Gaza.
An image published by Channel 12 showed boxes of drone equipment, reportedly found in the suspects’ flat.

These were, according to the report, due to have explosive devices attached to them, with the intention of killing the minister.
Channel 12 also reported that the cell operated in the West Bank under the command of Hamas’ headquarters in Turkey.
It comes as Ben-Gvir is set to attend a meeting in Jerusalem tomorrow, chaired by Prime Minister Netanyahu, reportedly to discuss the prospect of annexing the West Bank.
According to several Hebrew media reports, Netanyahu will hold a meeting with a number of senior ministers to discuss Israel's response to international efforts to recognise a Palestinian state.
The application of what some lawmakers call "sovereignty" over the West Bank is understood to be one of the options on the table.
This concept is based on the claim that, when Israel was established out of the British Mandate, the territory was within its borders before being illegally occupied by Jordan and, therefore, that Israel has a legal right to it.
This argument is heavily disputed, with the UN maintaining that it is, in fact, Israel that is the occupying power in the West Bank.
Should Jerusalem assert sovereignty, it would impose both military and civil control of the territory, effectively absorbing it into Israel proper.
The reports suggest that Netanyahu will hold a discussion on the topic with Defence Minister Israel Katz, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, Justice Minister Yariv Levin and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, in addition to Ben-Gvir.
