Israeli security forces are on high alert today as the anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem is marked.
Some 3,000 police officers will be patrolling the city as Israelis hold events celebrating Jerusalem Day and marking 44 years since the Six Day War.
Five officers were wounded last night when they were attacked by Palestinians throwing stones and firebombs. Several Facebook pages urging Palestinians to take part in mass Jerusalem Day demonstrations against Israel have also been set up.
Thousands of Israelis are also expected to march in an Arab neighbourhood of east Jerusalem.
Addressing a group at a yeshiva in the Old City of Jerusalem, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu referred to "next year in a more built up Jerusalem".
He said the city would not be divided again and added: "The rocks and archaeological art efacts found in Jerusalem expose the deep ties between the Jewish people and its capital."
