A journalist involved in making the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land has allegedly been shot dead by a West Bank settler.
Awdah Hathaleen was reportedly mortally wounded during a confrontation in a rural area near Hebron.
Levi was previously sanctioned by the US under the Biden administration over his alleged links to settler violence, but was removed from the sanctions regimen by President Trump. He remains under sanctions from both the UK and EU.

In a post on X, Yuval Abraham, an Israeli journalist who co-directed the film, claimed: “An Israeli settler just shot Odeh Hadalin in the lungs, a remarkable activist who helped us film No Other Land in Masafer Yatta."
He attached a video allegedly showing Levi arguing with Palestinian residents while holding a handgun.
At several points during the clip, he fired the weapon while seemingly waving it in the direction of the camera.
Basel Adra, another co-director, said in a statement: “My dear friend Awdah was slaughtered this evening.
"He was standing in front of the community centre in his village when a settler fired a bullet that pierced his chest and took his life.”
Levi was reportedly arrested by Israeli police in connection with the alleged shooting, but has since been released without charge.
According to The Guardian, an IDF spokesperson said that an armed “Israeli civilian” had opened fire on a group who had thrown rocks in the area. The police confirmed one Israeli had been arrested, as well as seven from the town of Umm al-Khair, and that it was investigating.
No Other Land followed the story of Adra, a Palestinian activist in the village of Masafer Yatta, and the unlikely friendship he formed with Abraham. It was heavily critical of the Netanyahu government and Israel’s conduct in the West Bank, provoking controversy upon its release.
It was nominated for a Bafta in the documentary category at this year’s awards and went on to claim the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature Film in March.
