The criminal trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been delayed once more after the head of Shin Bet, David Zini, told the court that the premier’s safety would be at risk.
Zini supported Netanyahu's earlier request and said that standing trial in public on a known date puts the premier at risk of attack by Iranian agents, while Israel has uncovered dozens of Israelis working for Iran since October 7.
Yesterday, in one of the most serious cases so far, four men were accused in the Haifa District Court of creating explosive material intended for terror bombings on the orders of an Iranian agent.
“Due to classified security and diplomatic reasons connected … to the dramatic events that have taken place in the State of Israel and throughout the Middle East in recent times, the Prime Minister will not be able to testify in the proceeding for at least the next two weeks,” Netanyahu’s filing to the Jerusalem District Court said.
