Nearly 40 years after a group of Israeli athletes were massacred during the Munich Olympic Games, the identity card of one of the victims has been returned to his family.
Eliezer Halfin, a wrestler, was among the 11 Israeli competitors killed by Palestinian terrorists during the 1972 Olympics. The men, along with a West German police officer , were taken hostage and then murdered.
Mr Halfin’s ID was found by a German police officer who kept it until he died. His son then discovered the card and showed it to officials at Berlin’s Israeli embassy.
The 40th anniversary of the attack will be remembered next year at a special tribute during the Olympic Games in London.
