Britain's first Jewish ambassador to Israel is now the proud father of a baby girl born in Tel Aviv.

Rachel Elizabeth Gould was born earlier today. Her father Matthew and his wife Celia arrived in Israel in September, replacing Sir Tom Phillips in the post.

Mr Gould praised the "excellent care" given by staff at the Lis Maternity Hospital and said: "We are both incredibly happy and proud new parents.

"We are very grateful for the fabulous care we've received and all the mazel tovs we've been sent."
