A London-based production company has sold the rights to a new Israeli TV drama set during the Yom Kippur War to the streaming service HBO Max.
‘Valley of Tears’, which stars Shtisel star Maor Schwitzer, Lior Ashkenazi (Foxtrot) and Ofer Hayoun (Euphoria), is being billed as “the most expensive Israeli series ever made”.
It was named after a tank battleground in the Golan Heights which saw outnumbered Israeli troops hold back Syrian forces until reinforcement could be mobilised.
The mini-series revisits the 1973 conflict from the point of view of four combatants who were “swept away from their loved ones by the ravages of war.”
The series, created by Israeli writers Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen, "is a smart and thrilling series that goes way beyond the war drama genre,” said Maya Amsellem, managing director of production company WestEnd Films.
“It will keep viewers on the edge of their seats while they become emotionally invested in the lead characters’ stories.
“HBO Max is truly the perfect home for the series and we can’t wait to share it with audiences worldwide,” she added.
WestEnd Films is also currently producing Traitor, another Israeli drama written by Mr Leshem and Mr Cohen.
