An Israeli restaurant is offering 50 per cent off for Jews and Arabs who eat together.
In an attempt to quell tension amid a series of violent attacks against Jews, one hummus cafe is doing what it can to promote reconciliation.
In a Facebook post, the owner of the Hummus Bar at the M Mall in Kfar Vitkin wrote: “Scared of Arabs? Scared of Jews? With us there are no Arabs, but also no Jews. With us there are people.
“And genuine excellent Arabic hummus, and Jewish, excellent praiseworthy falafel with free refill on every hummus, whether you're Arabs, Jews, Christians or Indians.
“Special bargain, 50 per cent discount on hummus to a table where Arabs and Jews sit together.”
The offer, which is only valid Sunday through to Thursday, has been shared hundreds of times online, and attracted comments in a range of languages.
Owner Kobi Tzafrir said he was surprised to hear news of the offer had reached far and wide, but that it had been warmly received by locals, many of whom had already made use of it.
Speaking to the Times of Israel he said: “If there's anything that can bring together these peoples, it’s hummus.”
מפחדים מערבים? מפחדים מיהודים? אצלנו אין ערבים! אבל אין גם יהודים... אצלנו יש בני אדם! וחומוס ערבי אמיתי ומעולה!...
