An Israeli pizza shop owner managed to disarm a knife-wielding man by using a wooden pizza platter.

Newly released footage shows Shlomi Madar, of Pizza Nepolita in Petach Tikvah, using the platter to protect himself from the attacker's knife. Mr Madar’s quick action helped to incapacitate the attacker, who had already stabbed one person.

Mr Madar, 24, told the Times of Israel that he “heard screams coming from the shwarma shop two stores down" and "immediately understood what was happening.

“When he ran in front of my shop and I saw the knife, I quickly swung down the countertop so he couldn’t get to me.” After dodging the terrorist’s attempts to stab him, Mr Madar then “picked up the pizza platter and slammed it into his nose as hard as I could.

'He fell backward, dropped the knife and started running away.” The assailant was later captured by the police.

The victim of the stabbing attack is said to be in a stable condition and expected to recover
