According to Honenu, the legal aid organisation representing him, Mr Ben David is the only Jewish-Israeli being detained.
As of December, Israeli human rights organisation B’Tselem reported that all 464 other detainees are Palestinian.
While detainees can appeal the detention, they do not receive a full trial or have access to the evidence against them.
The administrative detention order signed by Mr Bennett allows for Mr Ben David to be jailed for 30 days without having to present evidence against him.
Adi Keidar, the Honenu attorney representing Mr Ben David, said in a statement: “The law enforcement system has reached a new low.
“The order is signed by no more and no less that the newly appointed Defense Minister, Naftali Bennett, who has joined the community of people who have won across-the-board condemnation from the Israeli public – the law enforcement system, the Attorney General’s office, the police and the GSS.
“Unfortunately the way things were done was inappropriate. We will appeal to the court for cancellation of the unjust order.”
According to Honenu, on Monday evening 20 demonstrators protested the arrest opposite Mr Bennett’s home.
Three protesters were detained by police.
