Israeli-Arab teenager charged over Tel Aviv bus bomb

articlemain

An Israeli-Arab teenager has been charged with planting the Tel Aviv bus bomb that wounded 15 people on November 21, during the recent Israel-Gaza conflict.

Eighteen-year-old Mohammed Mafarja, a Bir Zeit University student from Taibe, allegedly informed associates when the bomb was in place, before they detonated the device using a mobile phone.

A police spokesperson confirmed that three Palestinians from the West Bank are in custody on suspicion of recruiting Mr Mafarja to commit the act.

Mr Mafarja’s lawyer reportedly told journalists at the Tel Aviv District Court that the defendant “did not know that the content of the bag would lead to such a result.”

Mr Mafarja was charged on Wednesday and no trial date has yet been set.
