Age restrictions on Muslims praying at Temple Mount have been lifted for Friday prayers.
Due to the violent clashes in recent weeks, entry to the Dome of the Rock mosque was limited to men over the age of 35 and women.
Israeli security forces were deployed around the holy site and at other possible points of tension across the capital this morning in order prevent any incidents, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
Police will also be removing two new checkpoints placed on roads leading to the Issawiyah area in East Jerusalem, after protests by residents.
The decision to lift the age restriction was announced in a statement released shortly after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Jordan’s King Abdullah II and US Secretary of State John Kerry in Amman to discuss the tensions in Israel.
