The IDF has struck the new chief of Hamas’ military wing, days after eliminating his predecessor.
Following orders from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country’s Defence Minister Israel Katz, the military targeted Mohammed Odeh in Gaza.
“At the direction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, the IDF has just struck at Mohammed Odeh in Gaza, the new leader of the military wing of the Hamas terrorist organisation and one of the architects of the October 7 massacre,” a post from the prime minister's office said on X on Tuesday evening.
This morning Katz confirmed Odeh was killed in the attack. Writing on X, he said: "The commander of Hamas terror organisation's military arm number 4 in Gaza was eliminated yesterday and sent to meet his partners in the depths of hell."
Odeh was appointed about a week ago as a replacement for Ezzedine al-Haddad who was “eliminated” in another IDF strike in the Gaza Strip about a week eaerlier.
The statement on Tuesday evening said Odeh had been head of Hamas’ intelligence staff on October 7 and “was responsible for the murder, abduction, and wounding of many Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers”.
Officials from the Hamas-run health ministry have said that three people were killed and more than 20 others wounded in an Israeli strike on a block of flats in the Rimal area of Gaza City. A funeral was held today for Odeh and his family.
