The leaked video, which some have claimed to be selectively edited, has prompted a criminal investigation into five soldiers, which Tomer-Yerushalmi was overseeing before stepping down.
In her resignation letter, she suggested that she had authorised the leak in order to dispel the "propaganda" against the IDF, in reference to the backlash from right-wing MKs after the men were arrested.
She wrote: “I approved the release of material to the media in an attempt to counter the false propaganda directed against the military law enforcement authorities.
"I bear full responsibility for any material that was released to the media from within the unit...from this responsibility also stems my decision to conclude my tenure as military advocate-general.”
The footage in question emerged last year and purportedly showed troops beating and sexually assaulting a prisoner at the Sde Teiman detention facility last July.
The man was obscured from surveillance cameras by soldiers holding riot shields, but was reportedly treated for severe injuries, including damage to his rectum.
Five soldiers were indicted for assault in February, though prosecutors dropped the charges of aggravated sodomy against them. The men have denied all charges.
It comes after the lawyer sparked a manhunt last week when she went missing just after her resignation.
She was later found on a beach in Tel Aviv after another suspected suicide attempt.
Her phone had apparently been thrown into the sea, but was later unexpectedly recovered by a swimmer.
Per Ynet, police will ask a court to apply the conditions of her house arrest during her time in hospital.
They are also expected to request that her passport be confiscated to prevent her fleeing the country.
