A number of senior officials from Israel's largest Labour union, the Histadrut, were arrested on Monday morning.

Police confirmed that dozens of suspects had been taken into custody as part of a long-running undercover investigation into alleged corruption within the union.

Those arrested are suspected of offences including bribery, fraud, breach of trust, money laundering and tax offences.

The investigation was established more than two years ago to look into claims that some officials took bribes or accepted benefits from leading business figures in return for promoting their companies' interests.
