Hamas could accept US President Donald Trump's peace deal plan as soon as tomorrow, bringing the war in Gaza to an immediate end, according to reports.
The terror group has received the plan and is currently reviewing it in Doha, Qatar's Foreign Ministry has confirmed.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to the deal yesterday, along with multiple Arab countries including Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Quoting a source said to be close to the negotiations, broadcaster CBS reported that Hamas is leaning toward accepting Trump’s plan, with the terror group potentially providing a response to Egyptian and Qatari mediators as soon as tomorrow.
If Hamas accepts the deal, it will have to disarm and give up all control of Gaza. All living hostages and the bodies of those killed will need to be released within 72 hours. Hamas officials will be granted amnesty and thousands of Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli prisons, while an intermediary period in the governance of Gaza will be set up called "The Board of Peace".
The source described the plan as “completely biased toward Israel” and said it proposed “impossible conditions” for Hamas: “Trump adopted all of Israel’s terms, which do not grant the Palestinians any legitimate rights.”
Another senior Hamas official told the Russian news agency Sputnik that “the attempt at disarmament is impossible. No matter the cost – there are principles that our people in Gaza will not give up.”
The Palestinian Authority has said: "We have affirmed that we desire a modern, democratic, non-militarised Palestinian state that is committed to pluralism and the peaceful transfer of power."
If Hamas rejects the deal, or accepts and then does not adhere to the terms, Netanyahu has said Israel will "finish the job”, with Trump saying the US will give the country its "full backing"
