Gilad Shalit logs in to Facebook

articlemain

The news that most 25-year-olds had joined Facebook would not normally be greeted with much amazement.

But when the individual in question is an Israeli soldier who was held captive by Hamas for more than five years, it is slightly more interesting.

Sergeant Shalit has also joined a group – now defunct - calling for his freedom.

Supporters of the soldier made use of the site as a tool to campaign for his freedom, setting up groups and arranging demonstrations on it.
