A truce with Israel and the prospects of inter-Palestinian reconcilliation were discussed on Sunday night at a meeting of several Gaza factions.

Islamic Jihad, Hamas, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Democratic Front all participated attended the meeting, described by Hamas spokesman Ayman Taha as the “first fruits” of a series of inter-Palestinian talks.

The representatives gathered as a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip missed a kibbutz in the Western Negev.

Taha said it was hoped they would lead to the removal of the blockade of the Strip and end “Israeli aggression”. And he is said to have urged other countries to take a stand against Israel’s “policies against” the Palestinians.

The groups pledged to organise demonstrations against Israel’s refusal to release Palestinian prisoners and its “Judaization” of Jerusalem and Al-Aksa Mosque.

They also praised the Khan Younis attack of last week, in which two members of the Golani Brigade were killed. The strike led to hours of clashes between IDF tanks and armed Palestinians, in which three soldiers were injured.
