Dana Eden, the co-producer of Apple TV’s hit thriller series, Tehran, has died suddenly while on location in Greece.
The 52-year-old was in Athens to oversee filming of the fourth season of the show, which stars a cast of Israeli actors alongside established international names like British icon Hugh Laurie and claimed the award for Best Drama Series at the 2021 Emmys.
According to the Kan public broadcaster, she was found dead in her hotel room by her brother, who became concerned when she stopped responding to text messages.
"We mourn the passing of our colleague and partner in a long line of productions, series, and programs at the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation – Dana Eden,” said a spokesperson for the IPBC, confirming her death.
"Dana was among the senior figures in Israel’s television industry and played a central role in creating and leading some of the corporation’s most prominent and influential productions.
"Her professional and personal legacy will continue to shape Israeli television for many years to come.”
Eden was reportedly on set to observe filming, which had been delayed for script rewrites due to incidental similarities in the plot to the events of last year’s 12-day war between Israel and Iran.
The nature of the story, which follows Mossad agents operating in Iran and abroad against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), led to immediate speculation that she had been murdered by Iranian agents.
However, the show’s production company, Donna and Shula Productions, confirmed that there was no suspicion of foul play.
“The production company wants to make it clear that the rumors of the death being criminal or nationalistic are not true and baseless,” said a spokesperson.
"We call on the media and the public not to publish unfounded theories and to act with responsibility and sensitivity. This is a moment of immense pain for the family, friends, and colleagues.
"We want to preserve Dana’s dignity and her privacy.”
Greek police have requested a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death and have examined hotel CCTV footage and witness statements from staff, but are not believed to be treating the death as suspicious.
