Tzeela, a mental health counsellor and mother of three, was critically wounded and transferred by ambulance to Rabin Medical Centre in Petah Tikva.
Medics performed a successful emergency caesarian but were unable to save her. Ravid remained in serious condition for several weeks but eventually succumbed to the trauma.
At the time, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the attack “abhorrent” and said “This incident precisely reflects the difference between us, who desire and bring life, and the reprehensible terrorists, whose goal is to kill us and destroy life.”
President Isaac Herzog labelled it “a criminal act of terror that chills every heart”.b
The IDF said a Palestinian assailant opened fire on several Israeli vehicles before fleeing the scene.
The army later confirmed that a man suspected of involvement in the attack had been killed after a confrontation with troops in the nearby town of Bruqin. Several others were detained.
It comes after a political row broke out at Tzeela’s funeral when settler leader Yossi Dagan used a eulogy to call for more protection from the Israeli state and the destruction of the nearby Palestinian village.
Tzeela’s sister, Shaked, cut him off in tears, saying: “I don’t want politics. I want love for my sister! Let us finish with love for my sister!”
Dagan attempted to calm her, but she eventually asked him to leave the podium, cutting his speech short.
