A "fraudster and conman" who defied court orders to help set up a gourmet chippie has been jailed for four years.

Come Fry With Me, now dissolved, drew media coverage after its launch in 2015 with a quirky menu offering a range of toppings to flavour chips, from steak and stilton to truffle and parmesan.

Simon Levy, 56, from Harrow, was found guilty of breaching a serious crime prevention order and a company director disqualification order after a trial at Oxford Crown Court.

The Oxford Mail reports that Levy was sentenced in absentia and has been on the run since January.

According to the report, restrictions were imposed in 2013 after Levy was found guilty of running an online luxury goods business under another name during an ongoing bankruptcy process.

In addition to a jail sentence, he was also barred from serving as a company director and from owning more than one bank account, the newspaper revealed.

The court also reportedly heard that police officers uncovered a Mont Blanc wallet in Levy’s mother’s home in Harrow in 2016 with multiple bank cards and receipts for meals at various London restaurants, including St John’s Wood deli Harry Morgan.

According to the Oxford Mail, Levy claimed he was hired as a branding consultant and did not act as a director for Come Fry With Me.

But Judge Gledhill reportedly told the court: “This is a man with a string of serious offences of dishonesty. He is a fraudster and a conman.

“He’s been appearing before the courts as we’ve just heard from 1983.”
