Former JFS pupil Peter Dubens is behind some of the top fashion brands paraded at this month’s London Fashion Week.
Mr Dubens, 50, has emerged as the financier behind the new collection from model, TV host and girl-about-town Alexa Chung, according to The New York Times.
The co-founder and managing partner of Oakley Capital is considered one of Britain’s most successful investors and entrepreneurs, and his previous ventures have included the KX gym in Sloane Square, which is rumoured to list Madonna and Daniel Craig among its clientele.
In addition to Ms Chung’s fledging business, Mr Dubens invested personally and through his venture capital fund, Pembroke VCT, in Bella Freud’s fashion label, known for its graphic cashmere sweaters.
Speaking to The New York Times, Ms Freud said of Mr Dubens: “He’s not one of those vanity people who want to be the big cheese. He is a big cheese, but he just seems to have quite a lot of fun sailing his yacht around and stuff.
“A lot of those kind of people who are money people, they are quite controlling and bullying,” she continued. “He doesn’t say, ‘Flares are coming back in, why don’t you do those?’ ”
