Parents of children at Yavneh College whose Israel tour was delayed by a day after their flight was cancelled will receive compensation from El Al airlines.
About 120 Year 9 pupils were due to fly to Tel Aviv on Sunday July 2, but had to return home from Luton airport. The plane they were due to fly on did not arrive from Israel due to a “mechanical problem”.
It is understand each family will receive 400 Euros.
Spencer Lewis, the Yavneh headteacher, told the JC: “I can confirm that we have agreed a compensation package with El Al as a result of the cancelled flight on 2nd July. They will be paying the school and we will be distributing the money to the parents in due course.
“I am happy with the service that El Al has provided in these difficult circumstances and I see no reason why would not fly with El Al in the future.”
Following the cancellation, El Al arranged for a flight to take the pupils to Israel at 1.30pm the following day – Monday July 3. That flight was delayed by at least an hour.
At the time Mr Lewis said the airline was “extremely helpful” in putting on the unscheduled flight. The reaction from parents was mixed – some thanked the Israeli airline while some complained the original disruption had “spoiled” the first day of the trip.
The children were due to return from the two-and-a-half week tour on Wednesday.
El Al did not respond to a request for a comment.
