In support of World Jewish Relief’s welfare programmes in Eastern Europe, more than 1,000 people have attended Big Bagel gatherings nationwide.

The bagel-themed socials — held in a variety of settings — also served as information events about the work of the charity in the former Soviet Union. Over £20,000 has been raised from some 20 socials.

WJR chief executive Paul Anticoni said that Big Bagel had been a “huge success”, bringing in £150,000-plus over five years. “Funds raised will go towards programmes such as our life-changing back-to-work project in Ukraine and Moldova, which helps struggling Jews find work — and to provide independently for their families in the long-term.”
