Netta Barzilai performed her Eurovision-winning song at a London gala co-hosted by Miss Universe Israel and Miss Universe Iraq which raised £500,000 for United Hatzalah, the Israeli volunteer emergency medical aid organisation.

The beauty queens, Adar Gandelsman and Sarah Idan, told the audience of 500-plus how they had met and introduced a video of one of United Hatzalah’s religious female first responders.

Gala chair, hotelier Ami Pomeranc, spoke about his emotional connection to the charity and his fundraising efforts on its behalf around the world. South African philanthropist Isy Danon went on stage to donate £100,000 on behalf of Londoners.

“I believe in this cause wholeheartedly,” he said. “Eli [Beer] has built an organisation of 5,000 volunteers that saves the lives of more than 30,000 people each year — children, siblings, husbands, wives and parents from different races and religions.” Mr Beer was taken aback by the support of the UK community.

British Friends of United Hatzalah director Royi Gutkin said afterwards: “I’m delighted we were able to bring a different style of event to the UK, unlocking a huge potential for United Hatzalah to expand our support base here.”
