The Jewish Small Communities’ Network’s first nationwide event saw some 2,000 people take part in its ONE Shabbat at the weekend.

Twenty-six communities were actively involved with others including its theme of community and kindness in their sermons.

JSCN director Ed Horwich said that hundreds of ONE Shabbat packs were sent out to participants and as well as shul events, there were online Kabbalat Shabbat and Havdalah services.

The initiative was supported by a number of synagogue and communal organisations and in a video message, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis applauded the “marvellous work” of the JSCN.

“It is tremendous for me to hear about the activity that is taking place in communities right across the country, particularly during the very challenging times of coronavirus.

“Congratulations to all of you who have kept activities going, if not in your synagogues, then online, because the extent of programming has been absolutely breathtaking.

“I hope it is not too long until I’m able to visit you, wherever you might be.”
