The Leeds-based Holocaust Survivors' Friendship Association is looking to identify survivors and refugees living locally who might need its help.

Having received grants totalling £115,500 from the Six Point Foundation to support elderly survivors living in isolation and poverty, the HSFA believes some eligible people may be unware of the initiative.

HSFA chair Lilian Black said that "since we began this project, two survivors, previously unknown to us, have made contact. We know there must be more."

The support is available to those in the Yorkshire area who escaped Nazi persecution or survived the Holocaust and arrived in the UK after the Second World War.

Mrs Black added that "thanks to the Six Point Foundation, we can offer support from people who understand their situation. This includes group friendship meetings, home visits, getting them to hospital appointments and helping them to participate in activities they enjoy."
