The London School of Jewish Studies has awarded a chair to its deputy president Rabbi Joseph Dweck named in honour of his predecessor Rabbi Dr Abraham Levy.
Rabbi Dweck, who is making aliyah in January after 11 years as Senior Rabbi of the S & P Sephardi Community, will give his inaugural lecture as holder of the Rabbi Levy Chair of Jewish Wisdom, later this month.
He will continue teaching at LSJS both online and occasionally in person after his move to Israel.
Rabbi Levy, who died in 2022, was a much-loved community figure who was Rabbi Dweck’s predecessor as spiritual leader of the Sephardi community and deputy principal of LSJS. He was also the founder of the Naima Jewish Preparatory School in Maida Vale.

Rabbi Dweck said, “It has been such a privilege to have had the opportunity to teach and contribute to LSJS and I look forward to continue teaching and engaging with such a high-level institution.”
Joanne Greenaway, chief executive of LSJS, said, “We are tremendously grateful for all Rabbi Dweck’s exceptional dedication to LSJS over the years and for his insightful teaching.
“He has been a remarkable asset to the UK Jewish community and we are so glad that he will continue to remain an invaluable asset to our college.”
Rabbi Levy’s son Julian said: “I was very touched that Rabbi Joseph Dweck will be taking the Rabbi Levy Chair of Jewish Wisdom in honour of my late father.
"My father devoted his life to the spiritual and intellectual life of our community, and we are honoured that Rabbi Dweck – a great scholar, a profound thinker, and an eloquent speaker has accepted the chair. His leadership and vision will ensure that my father’s legacy continues to inspire future generations.”
