Nottingham Liberal Synagogue held a special Shabbat service celebrating the golden weddings of four couples, all longstanding members of the congregation.
One of the husbands, Peter Gordon, led the service. Another, Michael Billig, gave the droshah. The service was followed by the first full kiddush in the synagogue since the pandemic.
Peter Gordon, outgoing shul president and another golden wedding celebrant, said that with the synagogue building also being 50 years old, it was “a great occasion to celebrate our golden wedding anniversaries and bring the congregation back together again. It was a marvellous morning and wonderful to have synagogue life almost back to normal.”
The couples also used the gathering as a fundraising opportunity, requesting donations from the community of 200 for the shul’s building fund and World Jewish Relief’s Ukraine appeal.
