The Global Jewish LGBTQ partnership’s inaugural summit has been held in London with participants from nine countries.
A programme of the Jewish Agency for Israel, the three-day itinerary was hosted by Keshet UK and JLC members, JW3, the Jewish Museum London, Jami’s Head Room café and Masorti Judaism.
Speakers included JW3 chief executive Raymond Simonson, who explained how the community centre furthered inclusion of LGBTQ Jews. There was also a talk from veteran Jewish LGBTQ leader Jack Gilbert. The museum’s Shereen Hunte and Emma Crew gave a guided tour.
Keshet’s Dalia Fleming and Robin Moss described its efforts to effect change within UK Jewry — and about the ground-breaking guide co-produced with Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis.
At Head Room, Jami CEO Laurie Rackind discussed how the mental health charity incorporates LGBTQ experiences into its service provision.
The Jewish Agency’s Pnina Agenyahu said a core mission was to connect Jews from around the world.
“Above all, it invites a global conversation among Jews of different backgrounds to celebrate diversity and inclusivity.
“The Jewish Agency is proud to facilitate this conversation and promote these values.”
Keshet executive director Dalia Fleming reflected: “We’ve learnt this week that we all have unique communities but with similar challenges. We look forward to creating better connections globally to create a world where no one is forced to choose between their Jewish and LGBT+ Identity.”
