The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC) has appointed Fiona Frank as project worker on its newly funded Being Jewish in Scotland inquiry, designed to identify the concerns of the Scottish community.

Ms Frank, the niece of Glasgow artist Hannah Frank, recently completed a PhD at Strathclyde University, studying the transmission of Jewish identity through five generations of an extended Scottish Jewish family.

She has also worked in adult literacy for many years and is a klezmer musician.

She was delighted to find a job that was such a close fit with her background. "I am very much looking forward to meeting small Jewish communities and isolated Jewish people and families all over Scotland and hearing about their experiences."

SCoJeC director Ephraim Borowski said: "It would be difficult to imagine a post more tailor-made for Fiona's skills and experience, or anyone more tailor-made to undertake this innovative and exciting project."

The study will be conducted both in the main centres of Jewish population and the more isolated areas of Scotland.
