Hackney Council will implement a one-way traffic system in Stamford Hill between 10am and 7pm on Purim next Thursday.

In a statement, the council said the move was to ensure “residents can travel to and from their homes safely and to reduce disruption and congestion”. Warning signs will be erected and marshals will enforce traffic orders.

“Stamford Hill is a residential area and for many residents the day after Purim is a normal working day. To make sure everyone has a safe and happy time, the council is asking residents to turn sound systems off and keep noise down after 10pm. Residents are also reminded not to drive if they have been drinking alcohol.”

Councillor Caroline Selman, cabinet member for community safety and enforcement, added: “Purim is a happy time for thousands of residents and it’s great to see people dressing up and having fun.

“As with other times of celebration, we would remind people to think about their neighbours and keep the noise down late at night.”
