Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis visited Jewish Care’s Golders Green campus today as its challah make for ShabbatUK was in full swing.

The event involved members of the Sobell Community Centre and staff from Camp Simcha, which is a tenant on the campus.

For June Cowen, 96, it was the first time she had baked challah. Sobell Centre member Alex Sofizade was celebrating his birthday and was delighted when members, staff and volunteers sang Happy Birthday to him.

“It was such a lovely surprise to see the Chief Rabbi on my birthday and it was also my first time making challah. I remember my mother used to make challah sometimes when I was young.”

Rabbi Mirvis said: “It’s wonderful to see you all at Jewish Care, together with Camp Simcha, celebrating ShabbatUK. I wish you all a fantastic Shabbat.”
