One of the diminishing band of chazans employed by British synagogues has left his position.
Cantor Jason Green, chazan and community director of the New London Synagogue in St John’s Wood since 2013, has quit for personal reasons which a source close to the shul said he wanted to keep private.
Cantor Green trained under British tutors, singing as a teenager in Montreal with the Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue choir, directed by former Londoner Stephen Glass.
He gained his diploma from the London School of Jewish Studies.
Chazan Jacky Chernett, director of the European Academy of Jewish Liturgy, praised Cantor Green as “a brilliant teacher and a very fine musician. I can’t speak highly enough of him.”
