Introduced to King Charles at a coronation garden party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, Rabbi Yossi Jacobs of Birmingham’s Singers Hill Synagogue said he would be praying for him on Shabbat.

Thanking the rabbi, Charles joked that in terms of the Jewish community, Saturday was not the best day for the coronation.

Rabbi Jacobs and his wife Rachel were among a number of Jewish guests at the garden party.

Others included Hilary Chaplin, Maria Gonzalez, Abelia Leskin, Alisa Avigdor, Janice Lopatkin and Monika Kosinska from World Jewish Relief, of which Charles is patron.

“It was an honour to attend the garden party, and have the incredible opportunity to speak with His Majesty about our life-changing work,” said Lopatkin, WJR’s director of UK programmes.
