David Cameron’s Holocaust Commission has appealed for every Shoah survivor in Britain to come forward and take part in the project.
It is hoped a nationwide search, launched today in the JC, will reach every survivor of Nazi persecution now living in this country.
A landmark event — due to take place in London on May 5 — will be part of a series of activities offering former refugees the opportunity to give their views on the future of Holocaust education.
Commission chair Mick Davis called on JC readers to help find survivors who want to be heard.
He said: “These remarkable individuals have built wonderful lives in our country and many have dedicated much of their time to telling their stories so that the horrific events of the Holocaust are never forgotten.
“But they won’t always be with us, and we have a responsibility to reach out to every survivor who wants to be heard and ask them how they want us to keep their memory alive.
“We’re working with all of the amazing organisations that have a relationship with survivors and refugees and we’ve heard from many of them already. But I want every survivor to have a voice as we consider how Britain should remember.”
The Prime Minister launched the cross-party, multi-faith group earlier this year to investigate ways to educate future generations of Britons about the genocide.
Number 10 is understood to have concerns that many Jews who fled to Britain in the 1930s and 1940s may now be unknown to Holocaust organisations. There is no accurate record of survivors who live in Britain.

The Board of Deputies will also hold a series of public meetings in London and Leeds to collate a response to the commission.
The first session, aimed at community members aged 16-25, is due to take place at JW3 on April 23.
