Abdullah Qureshi: A correction

The JC would like to correct the record

Correction: Abdullah Qureshi

On 6 April this year, Abdullah Qureshi pleaded guilty at Thames Magistrates Court to the offences of assault by beating and grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent in relation to attacks in north London on 18 August 2021 (‘Stamford Hill attacker faces race hate charge after CPS U-turn thanks to JC’, 6 May 2022). Contrary to what was stated in our article, he did not plead guilty to charges of criminal damage or three counts of common assault. Further, the CPS has asked us to clarify that at this stage they have merely requested that charges of religiously aggravated GBH and religiously aggravated assault be reinstated. It will be for a court to determine whether to accept these charges after hearing submissions from the CPS and Mr Qureshi. The next hearing will take place at Thames Magistrates Court on 8 June 2022.
