It sounds almost too simple... helping emphysema patients to breathe by poking holes in their lungs. But researchers at the National Jewish Health hospital in Denver, Colorado, found that small stents inserted into the lungs of emphysema sufferers may allow trapped air to escape and help connect lung tissue to the airway. Head of the study, Ali Musani, said the procedure would help people who would not otherwise be eligible for lung volume reduction surgery.

New Israeli technology may mean no more removing shoes at airport security. A step-on scanner, MagShoe, has been introduced at Ben-Gurion Airport. It can detect unusual metal in shoes, so only a minority of passengers need to remove their footwear for further examination.  MagShoe's producer Ido Security, is also reportedly developing a bomb-detecting version.
