The Tibetan Jewish Youth Exchange held a charity fundraiser in Swiss Cottage last week. Eighty supporters, including a handful of Tibetans, enjoyed an evening of world music in aid of Longsho, which TJYE trustee Michael Bergen described as “the Tibetan FZY”.
TJYE was set up to “enhance the cultural identity of both Jewish and Tibetan youth through informal education — and to forge links between the Jewish and Tibetan diaspora communities”.
The involvement of Mr Bergen, a former FZY leader, dates back to a holiday in 2006. After spending three weeks in Tibet, he travelled to Dharamsala in Northern India — home in exile to the Dalai Lama — “when I stumbled upon the offices of the youth exchange”.
